Environmental issues

Oliver Adams Limited is committed to ensuring a substainable future for its employees and customers both now and in the future

RECYCLING It is not only good for the environment but it also makes good business sense.

We use F&R Cawley for our waste management services as they have all the facilities we need in order to recycle our plastics and cardboard, but most importantly the option of disposing of our food waste to anaerobic digestion at a Biogas Plant. Waste at each of our shops is separated into colour-coded sealed bags and brought back to Head Office. The plastics and cardboard are collected and taken for recycling, along with the paper & cardboard from the offices. Waste food is converted into environmentally friendly fuel. It is emptied into a specially sealed food skip and taken weekly to a biogas plant for a completely green waste disposal. We have managed to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill by over 59% and are continually looking at ways to improve our waste management program.

Our bread waste is kept seperate and collected by a local farm who uses it in a mix for cattle feed.

We are looking at ways of cutting down our packaging and encouraging our customers to re-use their carrier bags. Remember one normal carrier bag will take 200 years to degrade.

Oliver Adams Limited is committed to continuously reduce our energy usage. All staff have been involved making them aware of the impact on the environment of our every day actions. The Company has a long term policy to use water and energy efficiently using various methods available to us, including monitoring, training of staff and the use of modern technologies.

We are recycling printer cartridges for the Marie Curie Cancer Care. More than 1billion ink cartridges are used each year around the world - most are thrown away. It takes 450 years to biodegrade.
